I am very interested vin purchasing an authentic 1861 Springfield Rifle that is worthy of useage. I would like to keep it as a momento on my mantle to my great uncles who served in the 117th NYVR from Verona NY. My ancestors are currently from that area and I am former military who has relocated to Texas. Not sure what the going rate is for a fireable weapon but would like to have either Type I or II.

I can't help you with the Model 1861, but since you have an interest in the 117th NY I thought you might like to see some pictures of a soldier's carved cane from the regiment. The cane belonged to Corporal David E. Jones, who was wounded in the head during the storming of Fort Fisher.

Along with his name and unit the carvings include a bearded warrior wearing a Hardee Hat at the handle area, and running almost the full length of the cane in a spiral manner are several corps badges, an infantry bugle, and the battle honors of the regiment.
