The rifle is a 44 rimfire/ percussion dual ignition. Rifle is in good condition with a 26" octagon barrel with a shiny bore, but does have some pitting mainly at the breech end.Finish on the barrel is in good shape for a civil war era rifle. It does have some discoloration, but nothing bad, The front sight is a beech sight but is missing the globe. The original rear sight is complete. The action is tight, but has turned brown and has been notched for a tang sight. The stock is very good with expected handling marks. The fore end is good with a couple of repairs 0n the bottom where it meets the receiver. Of course this rifle is not one that can be used at the skirmish, but it is a nice rifle. Picture available. $600.00 plus shipping.

Bruce,
The rifle does have tangs. The only markings on the receiver is the serial number. The barrel has Merwin & Bray AGTS New York on the left side. On to it says Ball & Williams, and the ser. #, and on the right it has Ballard patent Nov 5 1861
