Time to thin the safe a bit of projects no longer needed. If someone wants a inexpensive example of the musket that won the Mexican War and was the "Universal Yankee Killer" or Rebel killer for that matter in 1861 and 1862 to hang on your wall this is your ticket. Or if you're looking to build a shooter from a mixture of original and reproduction parts this would be a good start. Thats what I was looking to do until I found used Pedersoli converted 1816. I can;t see myself now getting around to rebuilding this one.

My 1816 was one of 15,000 built by N. Starr in Conn, this one being made in 1832. It was converted to percussion sometime shortly before or even early during the Civil War. After the war the barrel was shortened about 10" and the stock cut down just forward of the rear barrel band for use as a shot gun. The barrel is mostly bright with salt and pepper type pitting. Proof marks are still readable. No cone. Bore is rusty/pitted on the inside. The gun is not loaded, the other cut down muskets I've handled in the last couple of years were! Lock is a dull gray and still works crisply. The mainspring is quite manly requiring two men, a boy and a monkey to cock it. No misfires here. Stock has a crack where the rear lock plate screw is and a small chip missing at the tang of the breechplug. No cartouche on the stock that I can see.

I can e-mail more pics. if one is interested. Asking $250 plus $20 shipping. Not a bad deal when complete 1816 locks alone are going for $250. I'll take checks or money orders. Three day inspection period upon arrival. More photos over at
