Re: Spencers at Gettysburg

Be sure to check out Joe Bilby's new book 'Small Arms at Gettysburg'. I just got a copy, and am enjoying the read.

Joe covers the Gettysburg engagement on pages 158-168, and I think provides good insight on the issue of Spencer usage.

Here's info from the publisher: http://www.westholmepublishing.com/smal ... sburg.html (http://www.westholmepublishing.com/smallarmsatgettysburg.html)

It's readily available from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Small-Arms-Gettys ... 1594160546 (http://www.amazon.com/Small-Arms-Gettysburg-Infantry-Americas/dp/1594160546)

The whole topic of the role of the cavalry engagement in the overall battle, and the net impact, has been a flashpoint for some time. Check out the following blogs:

The issue of Spencer use, and fire superiority, is part of that discussion as you might imagine.

Hi RandyNH,

I have all of Joe's books!

Whenever I find an article on Spencers, I add them to the Spencer Shooting Society discussion forum, which I moderate, and pass them along to N-SSA for the membership to read.

Thanks for the links you provided.

If it is William O. Adams., he was there!
