What is the scoop on barrel seasoning? I read that with Black powder muskets it is important to season the barrel, by leaving either a vegetable or animal fat oil in the barrel. The idea is to allow this to soak in and create a barrier to season the barrel. Will this affect accuracy? Is there anything to this or should I use normal (regular firearms) storage techniques?

I use Bore Butter in my muzzleloaders. Cleanup is very fast and I have reduced fouling.

I've always used Break Free for lubriction/preservation between matches, and RIG for for preservation during over-winter/long term storage. Neither are organics, but both work very well. The firearms clean well, don't foul, shoot well, and there have been absolutely no signs of rust.
