I just ordered a Rich Cross-made P1853 rear sight for my first generation Parker Hale P1853. It is a beautiful piece of work and much superior to that loose affair that Parker Hale provided (the major shortcoming on what is otherwise a fine recreation of the P53). Anyway, my question is that the leaf is graduated up through "10" and the cap which correctly screws onto the leaf is marked "11" for the uppermost sighting notch on the cap-- Are these marks correct for a P53? I understood that the gradations on a P53 rear sight run up to either 900 or 1000 yards--did this include the notch on the top of the cap? I am wondering if this is a sight for a P56 two band rifle, which according to C. H. Roads in The British Soldiers Firearm is marked to 1100 yards. Otherwise, it looks just like what a P53 sight should look like, and a splendid representation at that. Can anyone offer any insights on this? (no pun intended!).

Actually, you were quite clear on the subject. In fact, I found your post in a search earlier today. I tried calling Lodgewood about exchanging this sight for a correct P1853 sight graduated to 900 yards. I did not get an answer so I emailed them this evening. I am hoping they still offer the 900 yard sight and I can exchange it. Anyway, thanks for the help.

They left for the Nationals in Winchester, VA yesterday. You'll not get them until next Wednesday

Well, of course-- being so far away in New Mexico, I am not always on top of these events. I guess I will talk to them when they return from Winchester. I just hope they do not sell out of the 900 yard sites at the Nationals.
