I guess they forgot about the firing on the "Star of the West" on Jan 9, 1861 which was sent to resupply Sumpter.

'Mad Dawg' was from the Great State of Virginia and he has been given credit for firing the FIRST SHOT on Fort Sumter. About 30 years ago I became friends with his Great-Great Grandson and I learned the TRUE STORY OF HOW THE FIRST SHOT ON FORT SUMTER WAS FIRED.

It was all a BIG MIS-UNDERSTANDING! Mad Dawg was simply cleaning his privately owned cannon at Charleston Harbor which was accidentally pointed at Fort Sumter, when THE CANNON ACCIDENTALLY WENT OFF!!!!

Well, you know how Yankees are, they "Jump To Conclusions really easy" and apparently that was what happened with the garrison of Fort Sumter. They started shooting!!!

Mad Dawg felt really bad about that "Gun Cleaning Accident" but now THE TRUE STORY HAS BEEN REVEALED!!!
