For sale is an original 1863 Springfield type 2 with rare 1863 lock date . A similar example can be found on The Horse Soldier website. Look Up Code: 218-324 Their guns barrel is in slightly better shape then this but they are almost identical apart from that. The gun overall is in very good condition with some minor pitting on the barrel towards the breech . Mechanics on the gun are crisp and tight . I have shot it once but I do not recall its accuracy . Has a nice patina and is an excellent display piece or could be a shooter , however as it is a 140 plus years old I would have it checked by a qualified gunsmith before rigorous firing . All hardware is original . Markings on the lock plate are nice and readable. The ramrod does not seat all the way down in the channel and that is the way it was when i bought it so its most likely from years of dirt and use during the war. The horse soldier has theirs priced at 2900 this piece can be had a 1300 . Discount for cash buyer in the NJ,PA,NY area that willing to meet halfway for a pickup .
