Picked this up at a local estate sale and will try it here before taking to a show. These rifle muskets are sometimes called the "M" Rifle or "M Enfield" since there is an Eagle/Shield/"M" mark to the rear of the hammer. Barrel date on this one is 1863. John P Moore & Sons of New York City were agents for Colt. They contracted to the Federal Government and several Northern States to make an Enfield type rifle musket of mixed American and imported parts.

Lock has a good action. Barrel has been cut to about 27 inches and sight replaced with a simple post. Stock comb has been smoothed down. Has original brass trigger guard and butt plate, plus one barrel band. Brass nosecap has been moved to the shortened forend.

Might be a good piece to use if you want to build one of these from a replica Enfield.

Price of $285 includes domestic shipping.
