Original British Militia Rifle pattern of Royal Marine artillery, (P-58*) very much like the P-58 Naval rifle, 33'' barrel, .577, 5 groove 1:48. Difference between this and the Naval rifle is the rear sling attachment. Condition as far as I can tell is unfired, as new with handling and storage marks. Bluing is near 100%, color case on lock also near 100%, does have a few scratches and dents on the stock and a minor scratch on a band. Bore is perfect and I believe unfired. We did an assessment of this gun on the British Militaria forums two years ago and came to the conclusion it was probably assembled and sold by Westly Richards of surplus parts sometime after 1870. The lock is marked 1861 and has all the proper British proofs on the barrel. Also has makers marks on many parts. Includes original sling. If someone would want to shoot this in N-SSA comp. I would say, check with John Holland first. It should be good as all parts are original and it follows the basic P-58 Naval pattern. $2,800. + shipping or pick up in central PA with a roll of RWS caps. Original P-58's in good shootable shape generally sell for over $5,000. We're certain this rifle was NOT used in the American Civil War due to the V.R. on the lock plate and the W.S.(Westly Richards commercial stamp on the stock). I'm selling this as a fine condition British Militia rifle.
