2nd Model Maynard Serial Number

I am in the process of restoring a second model Maynard carbine.
The serial number is 2389.
Anyone have any idea which unit may have been issued this weapon?

It is my understanding that after 22,000 these weren't used in the Cw .Could be wrong ?

Think you are right, but my serial number is well below that - 2386, so should be early or pre war issue.

Second model Maynards were delivered quite late. The first deliveries were probably around May of ?64. The inspection receipts are dated June 22nd, but that?s when they were processed at the War Department. That could have been weeks after they were actually shipped from Mass. Arms.


The Springfield Research Service books don?t mention Maynards, which means that Frank Mallory didn?t find any returns for them in the National Archives. In all likelihood, very few were issued during the war.
