Hi all,

I have recently purchased a used Armisport M1842 that I am going to do a 30" Macon conversion on.

Previous owner had drilled a hole in the side of the front barrel band opposite from the hole for the retainer spring pin, and put a wood screw through it into the stock.

This hole does not belong, and so I need to have it welded closed. Normally I would drill it and countersink each side and tap in a steel pin and peen it flush and grind it flush, filling and hiding the hole, but I don't have good access to the inside of the barrel band to do this, so I'm going to weld.

This is a cast steel part.

What kind of welding service should I pursue to have this fixed (TIG, MIG, etc.). I don't know much about welding.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve - The SAC will accept the band as-is with the extra hole. You do not have to weld it up if that makes it any easier for you.
