Picked up a bernside. I would like to find info as to who what and where it was issued if possible. Any info or leads is much appreciated. I can post more pics if needed. Serial number 3685 model of 1864 gc marked on plate providence=ri

The "Model of 1864" Burnsides are numbered in their own range, restarting at 1. The '64s duplicate all the early Burnside numbers. Even if you have a hit in the Springfield Research Service books it is hard to pin down who might have had your carbine.

Your number doesn't appear in the SRS books, however, close numbers appear in the Loudoun (Va.) Rangers in 1865. This was a federal unit recruited out of NW Loudoun County, mostly Waterford and Lovettsville, for border service. Less close numbers show up in Ill. and Ohio units.
