How does the breech seal in one of these guns and how hard is the mechanism to clean? Could someone take digital pictures?

The Shiloh '63 carbine is easy to break down and clean. There is no moveable chamber sleeve. There is a chrome plated pressure plate the mates to the front of the sliding breech. When the gun is fired, the pressure forces the plate forward against the chamber, sealing the breech.

To clean the breech, put the gun on half cock, rotate the breech block retaining pin and pull it out. Lower the loading lever (carefully) and the whole breech block mechanism comes out of the gun. Put a wet patch or two through the bore. Take the breech block assembly, the pressure plate lifts off of the breech block. Wipe both parts down, spray with your favorite cleaner, wipe away any fouling/crud, lube the block with high temp brake drum grease, putting some on the front of the block where the plate will rest, and some on the sides that slide in the gun, re-install the pressure plate, replace the block back into the gun, re-insert the retainin pin. Done.

Louis,
Prior to pulling the retaining pin, LOWER the breech block to the open position.

Reinstall the block to the OPEN position and reinstall the retaining pin.

Will go much easier doing the proper way.

Take care and be safe
