What are the thread sizes for the ends of a 1842 musket, an 1863 Springfield and an Enfield 1853 ramrod?

US 58 caliber rods are 12-26 threads and 69 caliber rods are 12-24. The threads are 55 degree Whitworth, or very close to it, but modern 60 degree threads will work.

I'm not sure about Enfields. Both of mine have replacement rods.

Carolina Reb has IDed the US musket ramrod end threads.

How about Enfield ramrod threads?

Gil,

I don't have a good answer, but I measured what I believe to be an original Enfield rammer. Diameter varies between .194" and .196", depending on where I measure. Thats a hair over a #10. The threads are beat up pretty good so its hard to tell. My thread gauges skip from 20 to 24 tpi, and it is between those two. I measured the distance between 4 threads and got .171". That doesn't come out to anything even, so i calculated the length of 4 threads at 22 tpi and got .182". I could believe I missed gauging the 4 threads by .011". So, in other words, I believe it could be 22 tpi. Maybe you can compare that to a British standard, if there was one, and see if it makes sense.
