I'm cutting down to the 34 inch barrel version and have a quesiton on where to place the spring keeper for the front band?? It is so close to the middle barrel band that there is no room for the keeper. Is there another way to secure the front band?

It is held on with a wood screw.

What size Chris?

M-1842, Front band held in place w/round head wood screw

I used a number 6 x 1/2 inch, I believe. Make sure it is a round head wood screw with a standard slot, as noted in the data sheet.

BTW, Murphy and Madaus document these well, and show images of both the longer version and the one you are making.

Sorry I could not get back with you earlier this week, just been a busy one with school and other projects. In regard to your question about how it compares with the Whitney Militia rifle you shoot, should be about 3/4 inch longer, but very comparable.

One last question; is the end of the barrel tapered and do I move the boyonet lug?
