Smith Carbine Release Lever

Teammate is having trouble with the release on his Smith Carbine. Very hard to press to open. Is there anything to be done? Who can do it? Any suggestions?

Loosen the screw holding the top strap. Once he finds the sweet spot-not too tight & not too loose-mark the location of the screw and use thread locker to keep it in that spot. I recommend blue Loc-Tite.

I have seen an original that had the top of the brass lifting pin sit 1/32" below flush with the surrounding hole. That Smith became progressively more difficult to open.

Perhaps adding a temporary shim to the top of the lifting pin, but not so thick that the locking bar does not lay correctly against the receiver, would allow the pin to lift further? Worth a test. Smiles.

FWIW Received a video of Smith.
A. Lifter is just shy of top of receiver
B. With the gun open, it requires force to raise lifter and there is an audible click. Another teammate mentioned a Micro screw on lifter. The battle continues

Check tube length. I had a teammate that had the same issue, and I found the plastic tubes were 1/8" too long. When closing the Smith, the extra tube length forced the receiver and barrel apart making it hard to re-open. Sanded tube length down and problem solved!

The lifter had a bend in it. Straightened it out and it is much easier. Think we have it licked. Thanks for all the help

You could braze the push bar longer, and adjust it down to the desired lenght. You are talking about the brass bar that is operated in the trigger gaurd, Right,??.

Yes. It was hanging up. Requiring force and made a click when it broke loose. Moves nice now
