I have a two-band Enfield repro, I believe Gen 2 (no stock cartouches) that I would like to remove the epoxy finish on and redo the stock with linseed oil.
Is there a preferred finish remover?
Can I thin the wrist? I have handled originals and the feel is very different.
Do any of these changes require a trip to the Small Arms Committee?
Thanks,
Brownie

I had good luck with Citristrip to remove the polyurethane and stain from a Euroarms P1853. When the Citristrip stopped working and was all wiped off, I then used rags with acetone to pull out the remaining stain. I got the wood back to almost pure wood color.

Thanks. I'll start there.

Cheapest oven cleaner you can buy. Pretty much use it the same way as the Citristrip. Always worked well for me!

If you change the physical configuration in which a reproduction arm was given a Production Approval, such as thinning the wrist, it is required to be submitted to the Small Arms Committee for inspection and approval as the original Production Approval has been rendered null and void by modifying the original configuration. At the time of inspection be prepared to prove your case for changing the configuration of the arm.

You mentioned that you have seen original arms with thinner wrists than the Parker-Hale. How do you know that those examples you have seen did not have their wrists thinned sometime in the 160 years after they were manufactured? Remember that the Parker-Hale is a London Pattern arm and was made to original factory gauges.

John, did the 2nd generation P-H muskets use Euroarms stocks, which I believe are a bit bigger overall?

Gil - I have no information on the inner workings of that operation.
