Does any one have any information on an 1816 flintlock musket that appears to be armory produced with a 33" barrel?
Thanks

Standing order in the Confederacy was to cut damaged and captured firearms to the longest length practical.... So it would not be uncommon to find any and everything modified by either an arsenal and or an "infield" salvage depot....

My father has an early rifled H&P Musket that matches up perfectly with what we call an 30" Macon... but it is not a 1842...

Possible answer to the 1816 short musket information you are looking for. The 1817 Artillery/Cadet Musket Type II, referenced in Volume II of American Military Shoulder Arms by George Moller (pages 442-444 Plate 158.2-B) is a 36 inch barreled short musket made from current production regulation 1816 musket components.
