I recently acquired an old original P-53 that has a broken tang. Is it best to replace the breech plug entirely? If so any suggestions where to acquire or who can do the work.

Thanks

It's probably better to weld back the missing part. That iron welds beautifully. Enfield breechplugs were hand fitted and the chances of finding a replacement that indexes right are not good.

I dont have the broken off part - maybe I could get a beat original and have it welded?

Weld on a new piece of steel and shape, drill, and countersink to fit. Not that hard to do.
