Good evening,

Recently when I fired up the pot to cast some Minies, as soon as I opened the sprue plate it just fell off.... The screw had cracked through and completely broken. After about fifteen minutes of choice words and... "creative" solutions, I was able to remove the bottom half of the screw from the mold body. 12348
This is the screw. The mold is an older Ohaus I bought recently and never used until my failed attempt. My question is, is there a source for these screws? I know they haven't been made for some time. I noticed that Lyman sells a "rebuild" kit for their molds, though I don't know if the screw is the same, and also all I need is the one singular screw, not a whole set.

Thanks for any and all help.

That's a bummer, happened to me once.
Considered making one.
Last chance, some one at sutlers may have one.
Perhaps Dixie, or Midway may have one?

It looks very similar to the Lyman screw. Lyman went to a thicker sprue plate some years ago so there may be 2 versions of the screw.

Easy fix would be to carry to nationals and have Tom Crone look at it. He can make a new screw or bore it to fit one of the standard screws like RCBS or Lyman.
He does great custom work.

Take the screw out of one of your other moulds and try it.

IIRC, RCBS took over Ohaus. Parts should interchange.

Thanks for the input all. I attempted to use the screw from an older Ideal mold, but it did not fit. It seemed like the threads were a tad finer. They really did not want to go in. I'll be trying to get a RCBS screw. Thanks again!
