Just in time for St. Patrick's Day I got my Fenian Brotherhood musket back from Bobby Hoyt who filled in an oddly ground hole near the muzzle. Now, I'd like to try and brown the welded area to try and match the existing patina the best I can. I know there are techniques using everything from store bought browning solution to mustard to urine

Curious if anyone here has done something similar and figured out what does and doesn't work?

Really going to depend on what welding rod or metal was used.
Depends on that and or the filler as to how it will come out and what will work.
I would just try one of the standard blue or browning and see what happens. May need to add heat or other oils to get it to take.

Laurel Mountain Forge browning solution is what most people use. Use a baking soda slurry to get it to stop rusting.

I reckon that was an early attempt at a muzzle break. :D

Decades later it was perfected by Cutts by moving the relief to the TOP side of the barrel...:D
