I have one that previous owner fired with a 510 gr. minie and 40 gr. 3F. He said it felt like a 30/06. Backstrap on grip is raised up enough to see daylight between it and grip. Buttstock moves 21/4" back and forth and cannot be removed. Has this ever happened to anyone else? L don't see any parts listed. I really like it but is useless in presant condition. What to do. I can bring mine to Brierfield in February if you want to compare it with yours and see if you can plan a repair. Don't duplicate that load again! jh

Most interesting post. Am very curious as to what a "pistol/carbine" is. VERY suspicious of the powder used. I'd go beyond don't duplicate this load.

Sounds like the old Navy Arms copy of the 1855 pistol carbine without the Maynard lock. According to Berkeley Lewis, in Small Arms and Ammunition in the United State Service, the government load for these was a 450 grain bullet and 40 grains of powder (probably something courser than 3F).

Yeah found it on the net. The jackalope of Civil War arms.
