why is it blued? I always thought that Springfields were finished in the bright.

A most fascinating stroll through replica wonderland. Phillips screws??!?!@?#%%??! As to the bluing Terry, be not blue; nearly all those awesome imports come with that blue sticky on them. I'd find out the "why," but I don't speak Japanese.
I think what would REALLY interest readers of this forum is ---- can I take it to the line. Do any of those replica quirks disqualify the gun for competition??? Small Arms Committee, any comment greatly appreciated.

It is my understanding that the early Miroku Springfields came blued. Note the low serial number. Later imports were finished bright.

I thought they all came blued and guys were stripping it off for the authentic look.

In the early '90s, I ordered several Miroku 1863 RMs for my reenactment unit. They came bright.

Back when I started Civil War reenacting (about 1990) the Italian 1853 Enfields came here with the blueing on them. Most of the Union reenactment regiments had the men remove the blueing to make them look more like Springfields. I know that this was also done back in the 1860's because there was an order from the war department telling the commanders to stop doing it.
