11400I just recently acquired the Benton Mississippi that was here several weeks ago. First, I must say, Lodgewood did a great defarb! It shoots weary well! 46 grs of 2F with a Lee .575 mould. But if I get back into skirmishing, I will need the Snell cuts put into the barrel. Any recommendations as to who may be able to do the work?
Photos are from this morning, 50 yds off the bench. And my bifocals?lol!113971139811399

I built 4 Mississippi's with the Snell bayonet cuts. Just used a dremil and took my time. Having an actual Snell bayonet was a big help as well. You can get the spec's from someone on the Small Arms committee.

Raider,
How hard was it with a dremel? I am very curious as to how it is done. Would the dimensions be on a SAC sheet?

Last time I looked they were. I used one of the small stone cylinder shaped bits in the dremil. Took two of them

Never a bother. NO pix as it was back in the 90's. John Holland should be able to send you the spec's.

Most interesting thread. You'll have to explain to us folks that majored in home ec in college what a "smell cut" is though PJ. Another variable you didn't address, many of u old timers, possibly a majority, have no recollection where we put the Dremel.

Here is a picture of an original. I had Charlie Hahn do the cuts on my rifle. I can dig it out of the safe and take some pictures if you would like.

Nice group! What make Mississippi is that?

I acquired one of P.J.s modified Mississippis with the Benton rear sight and cut for the "Snell" or ring bayonet at the muzzle a few years ago. I'm not sure an original Snell saber bayonet will fit this rifle but it passed the SAC inspection and I have the card to go with it.

The first two I did I didn't have to put the "cuts" in the barrel. Someone there the day at Nationals I picked up a spec sheet made the argument to the SAC, at the time 1995, was that anyone placing cuts in the barrel would violate the product safety code/ruling on the arm. They said OK. Then when I built 2 more, thinking 1998, they changed their minds and said to put the cuts even if they are very shallow so they are there. I placed the cuts using the dremil and my Snell Bayonet and it locked on the barrel just fine. I built 6 all together. The last four had the cuts.

PS.......I'LL BUY IT BACK JIM !!!!! ;)
