Where do you get those little combustible squares you stick on Smith cartridges to seal them up??

I used to cut pieces of masking tape; the cap burns right through. Then I bought a bunch of Avery dots in an office supply store. They worked as well, and all I had to do was peel and stick.

Office supply store has such, or when I was an elementary school teacher I bought them in all manner of shapes and colors at a teacher?s supply store. Walmart works too?.

Smiley faces, animals, stars, you name it. Fun!

I put the Avery dots on the back of my Smith tubes a long time ago. Now I go to the dollar store & buy cheap fingernail polish.
Put a little on the hole to seal the hole. Wait for it to dry then I reload the tubes. Cheap fingernail polish is Lacquer.
It burns through unless you go nuts covering over the hole. The big plus is you don't have to peal off the little
burned Avery dots when you wash & reuse the tube, the cheap fingernail polish burns away when you fire the tube.
We also put "little" rivets in our new tubes.

My son & I have used cheap fingernail polish & rivets for over 10 years, It definitely is the way to go.

Back when I shot a Smith I used small squares or discs of cigarette paper placed in the base of the inside of the Smith cartridge tube. Cigarette paper is nitrated and burns completely, and unlike the sticky discs placed on the outside of the tube leaves no glue residue.

Paper on the inside of the tube may not work if you have put pop rivets in the flash holes. The rivet sticks up quite high in the bottom of the cartridge and so the paper may not sit properly.

I don't use pop rivets. I buy rivets that you put them in a "new tube" put Cheap nail polish to cover the hole with cheap nail polish fill with powder & bullet and use it.
the rivet expands inside the tube and is "flat on the bottom of the tube". Pop rivets are definitely not the way to go. First off the rivet is too big
for new tubes & when you install it it has a large hole that you have to fill. I have used tubes for several years with the rivets that I have and I
have little if any problems with ignition. The only time I have a problem is if I overfill the rivet. I even made a sizer for the tubes when they get
too big. My son & I found that if we keep our tubes separate and use them in the same gun we do not have to size them. Cutting the diameter
down in a lathe does not work at all. This has worked for me for over 12 or 15 years. I am a firm believer in the old "ethnic" saying if it ain't
broke don't fix it!

Can you explain more about the kind of rivet you use?

I've used these:

And these:

What do you use?

Steve,
I uses ones similar to the ones Northeast Trader sells. I sold Northeast Trader what I use years ago. He found a place to buy cheaper ones.
I have no idea the size or quality of theirs. I do know I have been using mine for over 15 years in my Smith, my sons and other friends Smiths.
I used to sell them to anyone but I got tired of hearing I can buy them cheaper elsewhere. Now I sell them to team members & friends.
I used to sell a Smith Tube sizer and that got copied & from what I heard from a couple of people does not work as well as mine.
My rivets I found do not have to be set before you use them. I put them in, fire the cartridge and it sets the rivet & locks it in place.

I would suggest the cheap nail polish. As long as you don't go crazy and overfill the hole I don't have to use a pin to insure it goes off
every time. My son uses a pin on them before he shoots them.
Now I am tired of working to make something that someone else copies and sells cheaper!

That's what I did with the Fabory and NETCO rivets. I tap them in with a hammer, fire the cartridge, and that's it.

The Netco ones seem to fire-form a bit more flush with the end of the tube, but I don't think it matters.

I use a 1/4" paper hole punch with newsprint and drop them into the tubes before loading easy peasy.
