Building a Type I (is that the designation the N-SSA uses?) 1855 Rifle-musket, and I am looking for a set of barrel bands and a lock or lock parts at good prices. I had no idea what locks would cost me when I decided to go with an 1855:p Lockplate can be either Harper's Ferry or Springfield marked, need an 1857 or 1858 date. Anyhow, gun will be finished as new, so reproduction or good condition original parts are fine, but barrel bands need to be sized for an original barrel. Also need a set of band springs, and the rammer stop, and a rammer. Oh, and I have an 1864-dated original m-1861 Trenton lock I'd give in partial trade- good condition and complete. Thanks guys!

see if the SAC will send you the Spec sheets for the 1855. Just to make sure you are in tolerance

Thanks Lou. Already have an email sent to John Holland for just that.

Rammer stop? 55 muskets use a swelled ram rod that fits into a mortise in the forearm.

I was referring to the little piece of metal that the small end of the rammer stops against under the triggerguard area. '55s don't have them?

Good luck on finding the barrel bands. Brian Haack and I made all the parts for the 1855 series rifles. Charlie might be the only person making the bands today. Same goes for the lock plate. Not sure if Rich Cross still makes lock plates. Also S & S firearms show some of the in stock.

I've been checking S&S and hadn't seen any lockplates, looked like they were all out of stock. I'll go look again- don't suppose you could send a link? Thanks!
