I have learned this weekend about "Amoskeag" reproduction muskets that had thin barrels that might be light weight for smaller shooters.

Does anyone have one of these for sale?

Thanks,
Steve

I hope you can find one. I bought mine years ago when Chattahoochie BP was in business. Mine shoots well.

Also the colt and the amoskeag are one and the same, just a different name on the lockplate and came in 2 and 3 band.

A number of years ago, I found a 1863 Springfield that had been cut down into a "Cadet rifle" or a Artillery rifle. I got a SAC card for it.

I bought it off of one of the auction sites. The bore is shootable; I haven't worked up a load for it. The price was reasonable.

Gil, can you weigh the artillery model and tell me how much it weighs?

Jim: I'm sending you an email to ask the same.

Search on this forum for my post about selling two band Artillery muskets. If there is anything that you would like to see, I can send pictures. The muskets may not be pretty but they go bang and pieces will go flying if you do your part.

They also reproduced an L G & Y lock plate.

Thanks, Gil. My P58 weighs 8 and 1/8 pounds. Just went through the exercise of having her hold the P58 and she actually does OK with it. Still, I think a lighter gun would be better. Plus the best load I've found with this P58 so far is a RCBS-500M mine with 60 grains 2F. It's a cannon.

I bought an Amoskeag 2 bander and got a serious case of scorched fingers from it. Turned out that there were a number of them where the breech end of the barrel had been threaded too deep and when the breechplug was inserted there were several threads exposed above the face of the breech plug When fired, these threads retained hot residue and when you poured the next charge down the barrel you got a nasty surprise.
In the end I had to get the barrel re lined and rifled.
