A recoil pad might make the LOP (length of pull) too long for your kids, depending on their ages of course.

Might want to look at one of these shoulder pads:

FWIW
i use a PAST recoil shield because I?m anti coagulated. Didn?t like strap. Had it sewn on a well fitting heavy tee shirt. Big difference
