I have been using pure crisco as a lube for my C&B revolver. Someone has told me that using crisco can cause leading in my barrel. I like using it because it is cheap but it is runny in this warm weather. Do any of you have experience with a mixture of beeswax crisco and veg oil or just wax and crisco?

Len's Lube. Works fine. Don't know what's in it -- just saw somebody else using it.

I use "Wonderlube" for the revolver, which can be bought at just about any good sporting goods store. "Traditions" includes it in their C&B revolver shooters kits too. It smells really nice, and shoots good. Much thicker than Crisco.

Rob Lewis (Tri-L- machining) makes a good revolver lube also.

Pure Crisco is great for keeping the powder fouling soft but it does tend to run when temperatures get warm. Never noticed any leading but I do not normally shoot heavy charges where that could be a problem. These days I fortify my Crisco in advance with some Liquid Alox (a wax) mixed in and this seems to stiffen it up. However, I shoot my revolver only at the Nationals and not in the heat of the summer.

I ended up mixing up some bees wax and a little bit of paraffin wax into the Crisco and the consistency seems pretty good. I even went as far as to cut the neck off of a 45/70 case and made a little "cookie cutter" so that I just place a "lube disk" over the ball when I am done loading. I will see how it works out here in a few days

Dear Ian:

I would recommend that you avoid using Parafin (It is the original, bad "Greasy Kid Stuff")in your lube mixture. Parafin has a tendency to combine with black powder fouling to make a 'low grade, gunky mess."

I quit using parafin 15 years ago in my lube. I simply got tired of the mess it made. Beeswax is the right way to go. It might be a bit more expensive than parafin, but it does a much, much better job as a lube ingredient.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Darn I didnt know that. I didnt put that much of it in there. It is 3 pounds crisco 1/2 pound of beeswax and 1/8 pound of parafin. I will find out how bad it will be I guess
