Mouse Mould & Smith carbine

After some discussion, Moose of Moose Moulds came up with a mould for my original Gallager which, as I've previously reported, worked fine. It throws a 315 grain semi wadcutter with a heel .515" in diameter and a driving band .525". It's a thumb-fit in my Gallager brass, a tight thumb fit in my Maynard brass, and today I tried it on our club's 50-yard range over 42 grains of FFg in my Smith, also a thumb fit. Impressive result given the limitations of the 76-year-old squeezing the trigger! This mould throws a bullet that is of universal utility in all three carbines. Thanks again, Moose and Moosette!

Are we talking hard, soft, or some degree of hardness for the lead?

Are we talking sized or unsized? I understand that the driving band is 525 but again, sized or unsized?

Powder?
2f or 3f? Goex, Swiss, Ode Elysford, etc?

The devil is in the details.

This was its first outing. Full case (about 36 grains) of FFg Swiss, moderately hard, unsized bullet...it would seen difficult to me to size what amounts to a heeled bullet.

Don't push it all the way through ....just down far enough to touch the biggest dia
dies have a taper to them
The lee "REAL" .50 caliber looks very similar, tapered and way cheaper
just a thought.

To add to Bruce's comment, there is also a long .50 Lee with three grease groves. I'm convinced thru usage of both bullets the three groove is more stable/accurate. I think the powder charges posted are too much - also 2f too slow for the short barrel. I use 28 grains fffg GOEX.
