No. 5 Model Colt Paterson replica, .36 caliber, rare 12" barrel that was manufactured by MOFRA (Mainardi Officina Fabrica Replica Armi or Mainardi Official Manufacturer of Replica Arms) in Italy in 1966 and was imported by Replica Arms Inc, Marietta, Ohio.

Yes, it has been fired, just not by me, so it isn?t ?unfired? but the Paterson is in exceptionally good condition considering it?s 54 years old and the bore is really in very good, maybe considered, excellent condition. There are some handling marks on it as you can see in the photos.

I was going through some of my old American Rifleman magazines and found that in January of 2008 there was a really good article about the Colt Paterson.

In this article I found that my Paterson is a No. 5 model and they were produced between 1836 and 1841. A barrel lengths of the No. 5 could be anywhere between 4" and 12" and all were in .36 caliber. This was the model that the Texas Ranges had with 9" barrels and was called the "Texas Paterson". The 12" barrel was normally a extra barrel ordered with the No. 5.

They made 'em that long so that if you miss 'em you can just poke'em with the muzzle. :)
