FS: Replica Arms 1841 Mississippi Rifle .58 Caliber - $500 delivered

Hi all,
Looking to sell my Replica Arms 1841 Mississippi Rifle in .58 caliber. Wood is in very nice condition with a few handling marks and no cracks. Barrel is original brown with some rust freckles here and there. Case hardened lock also has a few freckles but works great and smooth. Gun has not been modified in any way. Bolster is marked with a W. Bore is bright and shiny with very strong rifling. Light etching in the grooves only mostly near the muzzle. Not sure if this is from the reaming process or from prior scale. All in all a solid rifle. Please email me at markthenav@aol.com with questions or for more pics. Mark - Thank you very much, It was very kind of you to do that. That tells me everything I wanted to know! What I am doing is recording old data for the Small Arms Archive. There aren't very many Bernadelli M-1841 Rifles out there with the "Replica Arms" import mark.

John, would this Mississippi have been imported by Navy Arms, since it has a Ridgefield NJ stamp?

Replica Arms started in Texas then moved to Ohio in 1965 then bought by Val (Navy Arms) in 1973 IIRC

Gil - Yes, this arm was imported by Navy Arms after they bought Replica Arms and used the name for a while before dropping the Replica Arms name completely.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the W marked on the bolster indicate the bolster is welded on (as opposed to other replicas in which the bolster is an integral part of a patent breech)? Are these safe to shoot?

Hi Jim,

You are correct; the W stamp means welded. I believe safety issues occurred using the earlier silver soldered bolsters. This is not one of those. In fact, many flintlocks that were converted using new bolsters prior to the civil war were either brazed or welded and were quite serviceable. I've shot this rifle with good results using 60 grains of Goex 3F, .581 sized and lubed bullets by Pat Kabowsky, and RWS musket caps. At 50 yards I was shooting 1.7" groups measured CTC. I suspect I could improve on this if I worked on the load a bit even with my old eyes. Hope this helps.
