Good Afternoon,

Thinking about purchasing a Bahn Frei bayonet and scabbard. Would like to get a quote on restoring the scabbard before entering into negotiations. Recommendations would be greatly welcomed for a craftsman that could take on restoring the scabbard. Thanks, Randy.

Being super rare......the value would be in leaving in it as is unless it's totally trashed. Then you need the Turner rifle to display it with. =}

Which version of the rifle? I'm sending m1817 with lug to test some Bahn Frei bayonets to the Baltimore show.

Very nice. Seems to have the same type of lug as mine.

Restoring old leather scabbards can be very touchy. It will lose value if you restore it. Did you just want to conserve it or did you want to be able to use it with the rifle? A reproduction could be made for it.

I would like to at least stabilize it. Perhaps some kind of very thin insert that could be glued in place that would act as a backing to hold the leather in place. Randy

With items such as you have I have kept them laying flat in a padded display case, under glass, as climate controlled as possible with no radical temperature changes, out of natural sun light, and resist the temptation to handle them! Good luck with whatever you decide upon, and remember you are just the current "care taker" of that scabbard. Just my experience and thoughts.

If I had that type of environmental control over my South Florida weather, I would definitely go that route. Right now just considering some less expensive options. Thanks, Randy.
