I'll be heading to the library next week to check out Daum's US Firearms Inspector Marks (forgot title, saved as favorite). I was hoping before then that folks here could check their books and tell me what these are. Thanks, Eric.

1601 carbine - from Buffalo Bill Center of the West; write-up has GGL, but can't confirm any of letters; also, only instance where cartouche stamped before saddle bar installed; also, next serial with cartouche is in the 4k range.
8982

4792 rifle - M H ???
8978

10585 carbine - no clue (2 cartouches; only Merrill with cartouches rear of the saddle bar; most 15k+ serials with 2 cartouches are TLK for Thomas K. Laley and RKW for Robert K. Whiteley.
8979

15728 carbine - no clue (again 2 cartouches)

I picked up the book and spent all yesterday and this morning having loads of fun. For the first photo, I looked thru the book twice at all cartouches. The right marking that looks like a "9" was only closely matched to a letter "C". The first letter has to be an "M", but from there I can't find any letter matches. That 9 is so prominent. Would be great to contact Pate on this one.

Anyone have an idea on the 4792 rifle cartouche? First letter M? Any lettering in front of the M, as I see it? Dealing with four letters, three or just two and some inspector's very unique symbol at the end?

I think the 15728 forward icartouche is John S. Duston.
