I recently got a 1864 Model 5 Burnside with an unusual engraving in the stock.
Anyone have any idea as to what it means?

In my opinion, there is a possibility it could be a "Brand" from something like an old Western Cattle Ranch.

maybe the IO Ranch symbol in middle and owners initials on ends? Would have been a lot cheaper alternative to a Henry or 1866 in immediate post war years. Once saw a relic 1873 with the IO brand at gun show here in Kansas.

And what's that spiral blue stripe all about?

I took the photo late in the afternoon on our back porch.
The blue stripe is caused by sun shinning through the porch rail.

I plan on retaking them Thursday at midday so the strips will not be there
