Recently acquired some lead and also got my neighbor to join the team. While we were melting down and cleaning up the lead to pour ingots, I decided to bring my musket mould over and cast some the old school way. I must say, I may not go back to bottom pour furnace. This way is much slower, but the bullets are beautiful. I pull the pin from the mould, open the mould and set it against the base of the pot. Melt the lead, turn the burner on this stove down almost as low as it will go, and start casting. I let the casting warm the base plug. Usually cast about 5 minnies that are a little swirly inside the base. Then it is smooth sailing from there. Beautiful bullets.

Use a propane torch to preheat the sprue plate and core pin. Your first minie will be a keeper.
