I am looking for recommendations on which bullet style mould I should shoot in my 2 band with a Whitacre barrel.

I want to see what is preferred... the Hodgdon or a Lyman Old Style.

I know its best to shoot and see what is ideal for each person however we all have different experiences.

thanks!

I've had great results with the Hogdon

I have an aluminum NOE mould in .576. It is supposed to be a hodgdon copy, but it is not exactly the same. Close, but not exactly. It is a 2 cavity version bought a couple of years back in the group buy. It comes with 3 sets of core pins. Two different sizes of hollow base and one set for a flat base. I'll sell it for $75. No handles. It would likely be next week before i can ship it.

Here's what the Hogdon does in my gun off the bench. Now if I can only hold it steady enough offhand.......

Hogdon, in my opinion - hands down.

It's hard to argue with that group!

I'm not sure on twist rate etc on that barrel, but I know it's a Whitacre barrel. I got the gun from another skirmisher used.
BTW- that's a 7 shot group.

That's 50yd. Groups at 100yd are under 2moa.

I'm sold on Whitacre barrels but like any barrel, regardless of maker, if the barrel is a quality part, then load development is still critical to success. That means all parts of the load from lube, to powder, to caps, to bullets, to sizing, to lead alloy. Get that stuff dialed in and a quality barrel from any maker will deliver if you can hold it straight.

I like the Lyman 575494 or Rapine 575315. These molds occasionally pop up on Ebay. Check out Moose Moulds for equivalent.

Lead saver and little or no recoil.

Nice clean holes on a paper target.
