View Full Version : 1855 Lock - Is it Original or Repro?

Greetings to the Board,

I just acquired an 1855 Artillery Rifle "shooter" - made up of some original and some repro parts. I bought is off the 'net and was able to see some pics before it arrived. It was advertised as having an original lock and a Hoyt relined barrel.

When it showed up, it came with a SAC card, which indicates a Jensco barrel and a repro lock. The bottom of the barrel is marked "11-84 SMJ&M 024" - I'm assuming a Hoyt blank, rifled by Jensco? But the bore is pristine, so it may have been relined - hard to believe the 8 L&G bore would be in such nice shape after 30+ years.

Anyway, here are a few photos of both sides of the lock - any opinions on whether it is original or not, or how I could tell? The bridle and sear look like replacements, and maybe the Maynard door.

TIA,

Tom

Original Lockplate-repro door, and an 1861 Mainspring, not a 55 mainspring.
Also-the tumbler is probably an 1861, if it was a 55, it would have a stirrip with a hole for the tape feeder.

That bridle is a replacement also.
