I have my eye on an original smoothbore that is reportedly a period Belgian copy of a French 1842 .61 Caliber smoothbore. The question is, how do I know if this gun will be approved by the Small Arms Committee for use? I understand the approval process for reproductions - either it is in the book or it ain't.

Is there a list of original imported foreign arms that will pass muster?

Thanks,
Jim

The gun is probably one of the Belgian 1842-type rifle muskets made for thePondir/Holthausen contract in late 1863. A picture or two would help. The guns were 4-groove .58 caliber. The .61 suggests it's been reamed out and would not be legal for smoothbore matches.
