I am writing a book about the Washington Arsenal explosion in 1864. At the time of the explosion, the workers were assembling Starr cartridges. Would anyone know where the Union was using Starrs during Grant's overland campaign?

Are there any good accounts of what the troops thought about the gun?

Are there any public domain photos of a Starr and its linen cartridge?

Thanks!

Hummmmm,,,,,,,starr carbines caused the explosion ye say.

We'll I guess they were good for sumthin'

You'd have to contact Ken Walters on our message board. Just do a search for him in our search feature at the top of the screen. He's our resident expert of starr's. I can only tell ya how many of them it takes to hold up a row of 'maters.

When ya talk to him as him how they compare to Maynards
