What do u guys use for a ramrod, shooting ur Springfields.
I dont want to use the original steel rod, as my gun has enough muzzle wear from it previously.
Any suggestions, Rod & Jag for it?
Thanks for ur help!

But a replacement brass ramrod. Many sutlers carry them. S&S, Lodgewood, North East Trader, Rebel. Stop my the N-SSA Nationals next week and buy one. 5/15-19/19. Winchester VA. Check out N-SSA.

Note that often the head of these ramrods is threaded onto the main rod of the ramrod. They tend to come loose. Best bet is to solder them together.

Lou, it appears that 2horses is a member of the 108th New York Infantry, according to the info under his name.

The 108th is not in the Allegheny Region and there is no member number. I guessed that the two facts meant he wasn’t a member. Wanna bet a nickel? The 108th camps next to us. Would welcome a new neighbor.

Thanks for the info guys!
I ran into this before. One of the moderators contacted and asked me, if i was a member with NO number.
I don't know how to change this misimformative info.
Sorry for the mix up.
I dont know how i got put in as a member.
I put NA.
Im not a member, I live in Illinois, by Springfield.
I just enjoy collecting, and shooting CW rifles, and pistols.
And u guys have been so much help getting up and running.
Thank you again for ur help.
Terry

During your sign up you picked a region and unit even though you are not a member. Most people signing up are not members yet they pick regions and units. I glitz that could be fixed......

My wrong. Lou Lou Lou, please accept my humblest apology.

Send me your address & I'll mail you a nickel. :) I won't be able to attend the Nationals this spring.

Not to worry. Better you owe it to me than beat me out of it. I’ll assign it to the N-SSA in my will😀

2 Horses- When you get ready to play as a member, we do have an active unit in the Springfield area (Co. G, 114th Illinois) and we have been conducting a Western Region skirmish annually here for decades.

Some skirmishers use brass rods, many use steel.

Not gonna get into a pecking contest over what some feel is better.

I’d highly recommend a STEEL ram rod.

Just be sure to wipe it down after each event, in short keep it clean, esp the head.

2horses,
I agree with everything the Col. has stated. I would also add the use of a Range Rod with a Brass Muzzle Guard to center the range rod in the bore. You can re-crown the muzzle too. It adds to accuracy.
