I need to find some real ballistic information on our current day Smith Carbine loads. Does anyone have any information they can share as to Muzzle Velocity or Muzzle Energy with the Rapine 515365 or Lyman 515139 bullets and a charge of 30-35 grains of 3FG, etc. Published information would be appreciated especially. Thanks and I await your reply.

I did some extensive testing with Smith loads using the black plastic tubes.
I found both bullets that you mention worked equally well.
I shot a repro smith that has a Hoyt liner.
I used Goex 3F with loads from 25 to 38 grains with all firing done from a bench rest.
I found that 25 grains shot well at 50 yards but did not do well at 100 yds.
With 38 grains there was no improvment over 33 grains; powder was just being blown out the end of the barrel.
33 grains gave the best performace both at 50 and 100 yards and the tightest groups.
Discussing Smith loads with other team members I found that most also used 33 grains Goex 3F.

with Goex 3F 33 grains, what's the bullet drop between 50 and 100 yards?
