I have what appears to be a Garrett Arms 1863 carbine. From the date code it looks to be made in 1978. It has the Garrett Arms stamp on both sides of the receiver. It does not have the saddle ring bar. Were these ever made without them ? The receiver has the 'hole' where the bar would be neatly filled with a screw - and the stock has the mounting plate there - with the hole where the ring bar would go filled. thanks, Chris

Your Garrett Carbine has had the saddle bar removed by parties unknown sometime after it left the factory.

John, I assume someone could get a replacement and put it back on if they wanted - correct? I'm thinking about selling the Sharps and wanted to verify what was going on with the ring bar. I appreciate your response. best regards, Chris

Replacing the modified saddle bar shouldn't be too much of a problem. The Garrett Sharps Carbines are very close to being nearly interchangeable with originals.

S & S Firearms has the bar:

The also have the rings-just check their website.

They are good people to do business with. I have been getting gun parts from them since the 1990's and have never been disappointed with either their products or service.
