Yeck cast Smith topstrap

Does anyone know what steel Mike Yeck made his repro cast topstraps out of? I need to fit one and have no information on heat treating - if anyone knows what he used, the info would be much appreciated. Don't want to hear that little "dink" noise if I can avoid it.
