Are there any reference works that address the good points and bad points of the multitude of bullet designs used in .577/.58 caliber arms?

Most firearms, be they muzzle loaders, centerfires or rimfires, are a law unto their selves. You can buy two different firearms that were built one behind the other on the assembly line and there is no guarantee that they would both shoot accurately with the same load.

When I started shooting in the N-SSA, my dad & I both had Zoli made Zouaves. His shoot very well with 48 grains of DuPont FFFg and a Lyman 575213 Minie. Mine shot its best with 45 grains of FFFg DuPont and the same Minie.

It is all a matter of trial and error. Get loads from other teammates and try their loads. Pretty much, there is a combo out there that shoots well in YOUR musket.
