If anyone has a McAulay or other authored book that talks to the Executive Document 99, specifically where Merrills were delivered to states' regiments, please reply. Below are some captures from a Stuart Mowbray book. Thanks, Eric.

Here's the link, but nowhere is volume 12, exec doc 99. All searches have been dead ends. Anyone out there with a link I could try? Thanks, Eric.

There was one regiment that got the rare steel mounted rifles. They marched all the way to the factory to pick them up rather than wait on the state to deliver them to them. Document 99 only shows government purchases as I remember, not state purchases. Search for more in state records Try illinois or Ohio for a start, ordnance records or reports from the Adjutant General. You can purchase the soft cover book " Civil War Breech Loading Rifles: (https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=DChcSEwjknYmh44HgAhWCZIYKHYnSDqwYABANGgJ2dQ&sig=AOD64_0L8ueKebqDadEk0ImBCgDfOyntag&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwjYqoWh44HgAhXQ1lkKHfwVBAAQwzwIIQ&adurl=)for a start too.

Thanks for replying Bruce. I had that book and a few others as favorites on eBay, and for $8 shipped that'll be a good addition (just ordered). What was the regiment that went to pick up the Merrill rifles, and is the source of this info the McAulay book Civil War Breech Loading Rifles? Eric.

Ha, that part went away when other new interesting things replaced it.
