View Full Version : Is anyone reloading 52 Rimfire for the Sharps & Hankins Rifle

Just checking to see if anyone shoots their Sharps & Hankins 52 Rimfire round.
Have and opportunity to purchase one.
But not finding much info on reloading for it.

Way way way back (I think '78) I got a shop to start making a rimfire Spencer case (same case) using a .22 blank for primer. This was before the advent of the center fire conversion blocks for Spencer. The cases are sold by Dixie. They are fairly expensive - they are machine pieces involving a number of operations to make them. Can be used over and over forever. PM me if you want more info.PM sent, thank u!

The gun sold.
I didn't want to buy it, until I had everything figured out, to shoot it.

Rimfire Spencer and rimfire .44 Henry ammo remained in production until somewhere in the late 1920's or the early 1930's. The Great Depression along with the reduced demand for large caliber rimfire ammo convinced the ammo companies producing large caliber rimfire ammo making that ammo was a losing proposition.

The only exception being (if I recall correctly) Val Forgett of Navy Arms had an Italian ammo maker produce a short run of .44 Henry rimfire ammo when he introduced the Navy Arms repro of the rimfire Henry Rifle.
