On a thread recently closed the Pietta shooters revolver was mentioned as an alternative to having a stock revolver accurized. I had one and the fit was much superior to the regular model as more hand work was done to it. It still needed a trigger job. Based on the chamber diameter, I should have gotten the larger .464" mould, but I was surprised to see that I got good accuracy using the .457" balls! I suspect they were a few thousandths oversize and that did the trick. I had a Tom Ball revolver years before and I liked the Shooters Model better because there were some things done in the factory that Tom didn't do. While they were minor, the Shooters Model was tighter. I still wound up selling it, because I found a custom 36 caliber revolver that really shoots well for me and requires no filler or wads. If you can get round balls that are about .459" or better, you may be able to get by without the .464" mould. The Pietta Shooters Model is an excellent revolver, and if you want to get a quality revolver that shoots really well, pick one up. It may need a trigger job, but that is about it.

Jim,
I have shot a shooters model for years. I find that a short Colt style bullet with 2 grease grooves in .457 shoots extremely well in it. I also had very good results with the .457 swaged balls from either Speer or Hornady. Dixie said that there is one person in the factory that makes these up by personally going over all the parts and tuning the revolvers himself. As you note, a trigger job is generally all that's needed.

The other option available at this time would be the Pedersoli Remington repro. They are making this in two grades - I'd get the higher grade. I normally shoot a Hege, but the Pedersoli I've handled impressed me as a quality piece.

Has anyone shot the Pedersoli 1858? How does it do out of the box?

And where can you get a Pedersoli Remington Revolver? I was unable to find any of the distributors who stock them.

http://www.cherrys.com/ped_pist.htmTry Cherry's, or contact Italian Firearms Group. You may have to order the gun special. You can also find them on GunBroker.com. None in the listings at this second, but they do turn up fairly often.

I second the Pedersoli Remington. I purchased mine as a custom order through Flintlocks Etc. http://www.flintlocksetc.com/ My Pedersoli was also the one submitted to the SAC/Board for production approval. Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase.

So it’s almost double compared to getting an Uberti and then getting it tuned. >.<

The base Pedersoli Remington is $950. There are several new on GunBroker. The higher-grade gun is about $1200.

Interesting but there is no mention of the higher grade pedersoli Rem on the pedersoli website, none for sale on gunbroker.com and nothing on google. If this is true I am interested to learn more.

Also, there's some good info about the higher end Remington replicas used in European competitive shooting on this website (English translation from Spanish or Italian)...

....and here's an index of that website to specific topics related to competitive revolver shooting.....

The Pietta Shooters Revolver is an EXACT CLONE of the original Remmie '1858-so much so that parts will interchange. Like the original, the Pietta Shooters Revolver has Gain Twist rifling, which probably accounts for much of its phenomenal accuracy.

why not just take a standard 1858 and have a custom built? Might be cheaper than the option you are looking at...........just saying.

about 3 months ago bought a new unfired pedersoli match 1858 in the box with papers for $600. Got it off a website that has only private firearm sales. Each seller is evaluated by buyer and results are posted so history of seller is seen as for honesty and such. The website is https://vaguntrader.com (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiYmN2OhPPiAhWIuZ4KHYLnDgwQFjAAegQIBhAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fvaguntrader.com%2F&usg=AOvVaw1eCCPpy9P_VnDiypAvBxM7)

Sorry do not mean to steal the subject but have seen a lot of good deals on there especially black powder firearms
