Sword Blade Information

I have found a Sword blade no handle. How do I verify that it is origional?

Would it be possible to get a description of the blade, markings, dim's, etc?

Thanks, to John Holland and William Coe for offering to help with the blade. Saw the blade and what to my surprise it was not what was described to me on the phone. It was in horrible condition and not a sword (maybe a bayonet) someone had ground the tang. Well maybe another day.
